In a proud moment for Arunachal Pradesh and India, eight-year-old Goyir Riba from Basar has brought home a silver and a bronze medal from the 8th Heroes Cup Taekwondo International Championship held in Pattaya, Thailand. Competing against some of the best young athletes from across the globe, Goyir showcased exceptional skill, determination, and sportsmanship. In the Kyorugi event for the 7–8 years category, Goyir secured the silver medal after competing against 13 athletes from four countries. Her sharp technique, quick reflexes, and fearless approach on the mat earned her the spot on the podium.

Adding to her achievement, she also won a bronze medal in the Poomsae event, where she went head-to-head with 19 competitors from five different countries, impressing judges with her precision and grace. The success story doesn’t end there. Another young talent from Arunachal Pradesh, Liken Nyorak, also returned with two medals from the same championship — a silver in the Poomsae event and a bronze in the Kyorugi event. Nyorak faced stiff competition, going up against 12 athletes from as many countries in Kyorugi and 11 competitors from six countries in Poomsae. Their remarkable achievements are a testament to their hard work and the dedication of their training team.

Both Goyir Riba and Liken Nyorak represented India at this prestigious international event, where approximately 6,263 athletes from 27 countries participated. The 8th Heroes Cup was not just any tournament — it was a ranking event where the top three athletes in each category earned recommendations to the World Taekwondo, recognized by the Taekwondo Association of Thailand. Dr. Migo Riba, promoter-cum-manager of the Leparada Taekwondo Academy in Basar, led the young duo and expressed immense pride in their performances. He highlighted the significance of their medals in boosting the confidence of young martial artists in the region and inspiring more children to take up Taekwondo. Likha Robin, general secretary of the Arunachal Taekwondo Association, also extended heartfelt congratulations to both athletes, lauding their discipline, focus, and fighting spirit. This remarkable feat by Goyir Riba and Liken Nyorak is not just a victory for Arunachal Pradesh but also a shining example of India’s growing presence in the world of Taekwondo. Their journey reflects how dedication, passion, and strong mentorship can create champions who inspire a whole generation.
