Agonibora rice, famously known as ‘Magic Rice’ for its unique ability to cook without boiling water, has been successfully cultivated in Palakkad by the Athachi Group. This remarkable rice variety, originating from Assam’s western region, can be prepared by simply soaking it in cold water for 30-45 minutes or in hot water for just 15 minutes—no heat required! Perfect for emergencies or disaster situations. Grown organically on 12 cents of land in Elappully, this crop has thrived in Palakkad’s climate. The seeds were brought from Assam and harvested recently. Apart from Agonibora, the farm proudly grows 37 other varieties of rice, including Manipur’s Black Rice, Assam’s Joha, Thailand’s Jasmine Rice, and traditional Kerala varieties. These are showcased at their "Rice Museum", preserving the diversity of India’s rich agricultural heritage.
