Devi Saraswati held a prominent position in Assam during the ancient Pragjyotisha Kamarupa and numerous sculptures depicting her have been discovered throughout the Brahmaputra Valley at different sites. Two unique examples of such sculptures dating from the 9th to the 10th century CE are housed in the Assam State Museum. The tradition of Saraswati Puja has endured through the centuries.
