Veer Sambudhan Phonglo was a pioneer in creating a movement against the British and fought relentlessly for the cause of the motherland. Sambhudhan Phonglo is said to have been born on March 16, 1850, in the tiny village of Longkhor, near the Maibang in the North Cachar Hills currently Dima Hasao district. He was an expert in guerrilla warfare and was widely revered among the Dimasas and other tribes alike. The British officers who attacked his camp in Maibang didn’t return alive. The spirit of patriotism infused among the people of Purvottar Bharat had shaken the British crown.
